According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Queens Park Rangers have started contact to try and lure Troyes manager Rui Almeida to Loftus Road.

QPR sacked boss Steve McClaren earlier this month after a dismal run of form, with John Eustace placed in charge of the side on an interim basis.

A whole host of names have been linked with the job, most of them with major Championship experience, but a surprise name is now in the frame.

Portuguese newspaper Record, QPR are now keen on Troyes boss Almeida, and contact has already been made about a surprise move to West London this summer.

Almeida, 49, is a relative unknown in the managerial world, but currently has Troyes sitting fifth in the Ligue 2 table, giving them a shot at promotion to the top flight.

The Portuguese boss boasts a win rate of almost 50% with Troyes, a huge improvement on just three wins in 12 games in charge of Bastia back in 2017.

His first managerial job came with Syria’s Under-23’s in 2010, but then went back to being an assistant manager before heading to Red Star in France in 2015, and he is now a well-known name in France.

Almeida would be a huge gamble for QPR given his managerial record to date and his lack of experience in the Championship, but may hope that he can become their own version of Daniel Farke at Norwich City; a foreign manager with the capability to develop the club in his image.
