West Ham United are reportedly ready to let Jordan Hugill leave on loan this summer after a nightmare start to his London Stadium career.
Hugill has endured a miserable spell since joining for £8 million in January – fee reported by The Sun on Sunday. After scoring 20 Championship goals in the previous 18 months, the 26-year-old made just three substitute appearances for the Irons after his arrival and found himself on the pitch for a combined 22 minutes – as shown by Whoscored.
There is little question that the striker’s stock has fallen significantly since his move to West Ham. It would probably not be a major surprise if he was given the green light to leave permanently if a club offered something like the seven-figure amount that the Irons paid, especially as Manuel Pellegrini was not the manager to bring him to the Hammers in the first place.
Hugill should be relishing the chance to leave temporarily. A great loan spell with QPR may not be enough to salvage his West Ham career – though there is no definitive reason to believe that the door is completely shut on him potentially forcing his way back into the club’s plans in future – but it would certainly put him in the shop window.
And if West Ham can ultimately recoup anything like the amount they spent on him in January, then perhaps it would be best for all parties if the curtain was quickly brought down on Hugill’s spell at the London Stadium.
