Queens Park Rangers are considering making an offer to Sebastien Bassong, according to The Birmingham Mail.

It has been reported that QPR manager Steve McClaren is considering offering Bassong a contract after the former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur defender made a number of appearances for the Rangers’ Under-23 side.

Risky signing for QPR?

Bassong has been without a club since the summer of 2017 when he left Norwich City in the Championship.

According to The Birmingham Mail, the 32-year-old defender came close to signing for Birmingham City when Harry Redknapp was in charge of the Blues.

Although the defender has done well for QPR’s Under-23 team, the 32-year-old would be a risky signing for McClaren’s senior side.

The Championship is a hugely physical and rigorous domestic league, and having not played competitive football for over a year, it could take Bassong a huge to get used to the rhythm of the division.

While QPR do need a defender given their performances and results in the Championship so far this season, is a 32-year-old free agent really the answer to their problems at the back?
