Could West Bromwich Albion finally bring the holding midfielder to The Hawthorns?

According to a report from the Telegraph, West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis personally scouted Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho last weekend.

With the Baggies not in action, their boss is said to have travelled to Portugal to run the rule over a player who could excel at The Hawthorns if he replicates his best form.

Not long ago, William was linked with the great and the good of the game after bursting onto the scene at Sporting. But for now the Portuguese international remains in his homeland where he has racked up 152 appearances for the team, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists in the process.

The Telegraph claims Sporting rejected an offer from West Brom in the region of £20million for William last summer, but Pulis is now said to be weighing up whether to try again with the Portuguese side’s stance softening.

Now 25, William is not the next big thing he was once tipped to be; instead he is an experienced international soon to reach his peak.

If West Brom do eventually get their man, they will be signing one of the best holding midfielders in Portugal and a player who could, belatedly, take the Premier League by storm.
