Stoke City are seemingly desperate to land Saido Berahino from Stoke City.
Stoke City’s Peter Crouch reacts
According to The Sun, Stoke City have offered West Bromwich Albion a choice of Peter Crouch, Mame Biram Diouf or Joselu in part-exchange for Saido Berahino.
The Potters have landed a major signing already this summer having snapped up Joe Allen from Liverpool, whilst Marko Arnautovic has signed a new contract to stay with Mark Hughes’ side.
West Brom’s Saido Berahino looks dejected
With two impressive central midfielders in Allen and Giannelli Imbula, as well as top attacking midfielders in Arnautovic, Bojan and Xherdan Shaqiri, Stoke look strong – but a top striker is missing.
Now, The Sun report that Stoke are pushing to try and sign Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion – and are even willing to offer up a striker in part-exchange, plus a £16m transfer fee.
Stoke’s Mame Biram Diouf celebrates scoring their second goal against West Ham United
It’s claimed that Stoke boss Hughes has offered his predecessor Tony Pulis the choice of three strikers – either Peter Crouch, Mame Biram Diouf or Joselu.
Crouch, 35, was signed by Pulis back in 2011, and scored 22 goals in 78 games for the Welshman. Now out of favour under Hughes, Crouch could seek first-team football – and a reunion with Pulis may be appealing.
Senegalese hitman Diouf, joined Stoke on a free transfer from Hannover two years ago, and despite showing some promise with his superb pace and power, the 28-year-old has scored just 17 goals in 68 games for the Potters, and may well be moved on this summer.
Stoke’s Joselu celebrates scoring
The final striker on offer is Spaniard Joselu, who also arrived from Hannover but only last summer. The ex-Real Madrid man, 26, hit just four goals last season and was a major disappointment for Hughes’ men, meaning his position is under threat.
It remains to be seen whether West Brom have an interest in any of the three strikers, but bringing in £16m and a replacement for Berahino – whose contract expires next summer – could be smart business for the Baggies.
