According to Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Jan Vertonghen from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

The French publication has claimed that Vertonghen has been identified by PSG as a potential target this summer.

Quality defender

Vertonghen is one of the best defenders in Europe, and the Belgium international’s versatility to play as a centre-back or as a left-back does make him a very attractive prospect to PSG.

PSG are one of the biggest and richest clubs in Europe, and they do need strong leaders and experienced players to win the Champions League in the coming years.

The French club’s reported interest in the 31-year-old defender does not really come as a surprise, but one suspects that Tottenham will not be keen on selling the Belgium international defender this summer.

New contract

According to a report in The Telegraph last week, Tottenham want to hand Vertonghen a new contract.

With just one year left on the former Ajax star’s deal, it is imperative that Spurs sort out his future, especially with PSG reportedly interested.

One could even ask whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should have handed the 31-year-old – who earns £89,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – a new deal earlier.
