According to Footmercato, reported Newcastle United target Lucas Hernandez is keen to join Paris Saint-Germain as clubs open talks over a move.

The French World Cup winner only joined Bayern Munich one year ago after the Bavarians activated his release clause.

The versatile defender, however, has struggled for game time with Bayern preferring Alphonso Davies and David Alaba over the £72 million signing from Atletico Madrid.

Hernandez could be set for a swift exit. Reports last month in Bild claimed Newcastle United’s potential new owners want to lure the player to St James’ Park.

The Magpies are in the middle of a billionaire takeover involving the Saudi Arabia sovereign wealth fund, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers.

Newcastle could have an exciting summer ahead on the transfer front.

But the Premier League club’s chances of snapping up Hernandez in what would be a big-money deal appear slim following the latest reports from France.

Footmercato claim PSG are in talks to sign him. The French champions are looking for a replacement for Thiago Silva and Layvin Kurzawa who are out of contract.

Hernandez can cover both positions at left-back and centre-back. And the player is keen on a move to Paris after struggling to get going in Munich.

The report goes on to say that Bayern are keen to move the player on. However, it isn’t stated whether it will be a loan with an option to buy or a permanent deal.

Newcastle may have to accept signing Hernandez was a long shot and move on.
