French champions Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan this summer, according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.
Antonio Conte has apparently lost faith in the Slovakian, who is no longer a first name on the Nerazzurri team sheet. Stefan de Vrij is arguably their best defender, while Diego Godin has proved his doubters wrong. Alessandro Bastoni has become a fans’ favourite and is seen as the future of the club.
That reduces the need for Skriniar, who will be allowed to leave this summer for a fee of about £45 million, Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
Little more than a month ago, Sky Sports claimed Inter would use Skriniar in a swap deal to sign Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele this summer but that deal seems dead as the Frenchman still has admirers at the club.
However, Spurs are reportedly interested in bringing Skriniar to north London, irrespective of what happens with Ndombele.
FC Inter News has claimed Tottenham are happy to increase Skriniar’s current wages, while manager Jose Mourinho had identified the Slovakian as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who left the club at the end of last season.
However, Tottenham have yet to finalise a deal, which has opened an opportunity for another club to make a move – and it appears they have.
PSG recently lost skipper Thiago Silva to Chelsea. The French champions are on the lookout for a new centre-half and the report claims they have identified the Inter Milan man.
Tottenham will struggle to compete with PSG
The Ligue 1 giants are thought to be in a much better financial position than Tottenham and can offer Champions League football next season, something Spurs can’t do.
If PSG really are interested, they will likely be favourites to sign Skriniar, which would be a blow for Mourinho’s side ahead of a new season that starts in less than two weeks’ time.
