Mike Ashley has suggested that Newcastle United could change hands ahead of the January transfer window.

Ashley announced yesterday that Newcastle was on the verge of changing hands, with hopes that the deal could go through before the January transfer window.
Newcastle fans have heard similar comments before, only for the deal to collapse.
But the Telegraph have checked the veracity of the claims, and have been told that Newcastle is legitimately close to being sold.
If Ashley does sell up before the transfer window opens there are hopes that Rafael Benitez could actually have funds to spend.

Newcastle have had to shop on a limited budget recently, but Benitez has suggested that he wants to make additions in January.
And it may be that a takeover going through is Benitez’s best hope, if he wants to have the freedom to bring in new players in the new year.
