Everton have reportedly offered Leighton Baines a new one-year deal at Goodison Park.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Everton are still waiting for Leighton Baines to make a decision on his future, with the left-back offered a new one-year deal with the Toffees.

Baines is out of contract at Goodison Park this summer. And while the 34-year-old has played a peripheral role under Marco Silva – making just six Premier League appearances this past season – the Toffees are keen to keep him beyond this summer.

The Liverpool Echo reports that a 12-month extension is on the table and Everton are hopeful that he will decide to stay with Silva keen to keep him amongst the squad next season.

With Lucas Digne enjoying such a fantastic first season on Merseyside, it appears to make a lot of sense to keep hold of Baines for another year. He may be coming towards the end of his career, but he has been one of the best left-backs of the Premier League era.

He can certainly do a job as Digne’s understudy for another year, and keeping him at the club for 12 more months rather than targeting a new signing leaves Silva with his transfer budget in tact to concentrate on other areas of the squad.

But Baines is seemingly still considering whether he wants to stick around as Digne’s backup or head elsewhere for a change of scene and perhaps one final run as a key player.
