According to a report in the Northern Echo, Sunderland remain in talks with more than one potential buyer, despite their relegation being confirmed last week.

Sunderland will drop into League One next campaign, and Ellis Short is known to be keen to sell up.

Short has come in for criticism for his ownership of Sunderland, and is eager for the club to passed on.

Sunderland owner Ellis Short looks on before the Premier League match between Sunderland and Middlesbrough at Stadium of Light on August 21, 2016 in Sunderland, England.

However, the Northern Echo suggests that any takeover deal is still some way away.

Although Sunderland are in negotiations with a number of potential investors, no deal is thought to be close to completion.

Some of the interested parties are said to have signed non-disclosure agreements, which means that details of the identities of potential buyers are sparse.

But there is thought to be interest in the club, and everyone at Sunderland will be hoping that a deal goes through sooner rather than later.
