The Newcastle United boss faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park.
According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle are prepared to offer Rafa Benitez fresh terms on a new deal, and meet three key requests the Spaniard has made that are vital to the chances of him staying on Tyneside.
The Magpies have made a woeful start to their Premier League campaign, having taken just three points from their opening 10 outings, and they currently sit precariously in 19th spot in the table.
Benitez’s future at St James’ Park has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few months, with Mike Ashley failing to back the Spaniard sufficiently during the summer transfer window.
The Chronicle claims that Newcastle are prepared to offer the 58-year-old a new contract, however, with guarantees of transfer funds, improved training facilities, and a change in structure to the club’s academy.
The Newcastle-based newspaper claims that Benitez would have to be patient, though, with a five-year plan being outlined by the club’s board in order to fulfil all three of those conditions.
Whether the Spaniard will be prepared to wait that long, however, is another matter entirely.
