Thomas Vermaelen had been linked with a return to the Premier League, with West Bromwich Albion reportedly interested, but Barcelona may decide against selling.
According to a report from AS, Thomas Vermaelen’s future may still lie with Barcelona, despite Sky Sports suggesting that West Brom are keen to hand the Belgian the chance to return to the Premier League.
Vermaelen has endured a difficult time since moving from Arsenal to the Nou Camp in 2014, with injuries preventing him making more than 11 La Liga appearances for the Catalan giants.

With the 31-year-old spending last season out on loan with Roma, Baggies fans would be forgiven for thinking that there were likely to be few hurdles standing between them and a deal for the centre-back after Sky Sports reported that they were keen on bringing him to the Hawthorns.
However, AS is now suggesting that Vermaelen’s attitude in training has impressed new Barca boss Ernesto Valverde and he is now being considered for the fourth centre-back spot ahead of the coming campaign.
Of course, Vermaelen is at a stage of his career where he may be unhappy at the prospect of being fourth choice – especially if he is now fully fit after three years that have seen him make just 33 appearances in all competitions – but similarly, he may also be delighted that Valverde has him in his thoughts.
But if he is not happy about his role in the side, then perhaps a return to England if West Brom do confirm their interest with a bid may appeal to him if Tony Pulis is ready to make him an important member of the squad.
