Manchester City are now bracing themselves for an official approach from Celtic for assistant manager Enzo Maresca.

Celtic could now make their move for Manchester City’s Enzo Maresca as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

That’s according to Football Scotland, who claim that City are now bracing themselves for an official approach from Celtic for Maresca.

It’s stated that Maresca was interviewed for the Celtic job in 2021 and is now back on the radar once again.

Postecoglou landed the job in 2021 but has now decided to leave Celtic to become the new Tottenham Hotspur boss.

Celtic are now considering potential replacements and Maresca is thought to be a prime target for the Bhoys.

City are now expecting to hear from Celtic very soon, just weeks after Maresca snubbed the chance to become the new Southampton manager.

Maresca is currently busy preparing for Saturday’s Champions League final, so there will be no immediate talks about a City exit.

Celtic are hoping to make their move pretty soon though, identifying the Italian as a top choice to replace Postecoglou.

Celtic could face new competition for Enzo Maresca

City have at least experienced Maresca leaving the club before; he moved on in 2021 to become Parma boss.

That didn’t last long as Maresca was sacked after just 14 games and he rejoined Pep Guardiola’s staff last summer.

Celtic have an interest in the City Football Group having landed Postecoglou from one of their clubs in Yokohama F. Marinos.

Maresca may be seen as a similar move but Celtic are hardly alone in targeting the former Sevilla midfielder.

The Telegraph claim that Leicester City are considering a move for Maresca as they look to appoint a new manager this summer.

It’s somewhat ironic that Leicester are targeting Maresca as the long-term replacement for Brendan Rodgers, the former Celtic manager.

Celtic will hope that their long-standing interest in Maresca can convince him that Parkhead is the right place to be as they line up potential appointments.
