Aston Villa have suffered horrendous luck with injuries this season.

Steve Bruce, Manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

The Villans are sweating on the fitness of three key players, according to the Birmingham Mail, in what could be a triple blow ahead of their Championship clash with Barnsley at Villa Park on Saturday.

Villa currently sit in fourth position in the Championship table, just five points adrift of second placed Derby County, and it could be argued that they have exceeded expectations, considering how many injuries they have had to deal with this term.

Glenn Whelan of Aston Villa during the pre season friendly match between Aston Villa and Watford at Villa Park on July 29, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

And things don’t seem to be getting any better for Steve Bruce’s men.

The Birmingham Mail claim that Bruce could be without Mile Jedinak, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady for Saturday’s visit of Barnsley – a game that they absolutely must win, if they are to keep the pressure up on those above them in the table.

Mile Jedinak of Aston Villa instructs his team during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

Following the game against the Tykes, the west Midlands outfit face a huge clash with sixth placed Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, and Bruce will be hoping that he has a full compliment of players to choose from for the first time this season.

And with a fully fit squad, there really would be no excuse for Villa not to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season.
