Gennaro Gattuso could perform a shock U-turn on his Napoli future after Wolverhampton Wanderers identified him as a potential Nuno Espirito Santo replacement, as reported by Il Mattino.
Sunday’s 4-0 home defeat against Burnley felt distinctly like a rock bottom moment.
The 2020/21 campaign has been a miserable one for a number of reasons for Wolves. But a clear absence of fight, effort or simple concentration during an embarrassing Molineux collapse… well you can’t blame the loss of Raul Jimenez for that one.
Good things don’t often last forever, of course.
And there is a nagging feeling among many Wolves supporters that the four-year reign of Nuno Espirito Santo may be heading towards a rather underwhelming conclusion; ending with lower-mid-table mediocrity rather than a dramatic European charge.
Nuno has been linked with the vacant Tottenham job recently, while reports from all across the continent suggest that replacements are in the process of being identified, from Rui Faria to Vitor Pereira, Bruno Lage to Gennaro Gattuso.

Tuttomercatoweb reported in March that the 2006 World Cup winner could swap Napoli for the Black Country.
At the time, Gattuso looked destined to depart the Stadio San Paulo. Some six weeks later, however, things are no longer quite so certain.
In fact, Il Mattino are claiming that the former AC Milan boss is re-evaluating his position, having been struck by the support from his players, his bosses and the famously feverish Napoli fanbase.
Furthermore, a run of eight wins in 11 games has lifted Napoli up to third in the Serie A table, overtaking old rivals Juventus in the final Champions League qualification spot.
