Giovanni van Bronckhorst may have already suffered a blow at Rangers even before he has taken charge of the Ibrox club.

What’s the story?

Sky Sports have reported that Van Bronckhorst have held talks with Rangers over replacing Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

Talks have gone well, and Rangers and the Dutchman see eye to eye.

Now, The Scottish Sun reported over the weekend that the 46-year-old wants to bring fellow Dutchman Jan Wouters to Ibrox as his number two.

Wouters was part of Dick Advocaat’s coaching team at Rangers.

However, The Times have claimed that Wouters is ‘unlikely’ to be part of Van Bronckhorst’s coaching set-up at Rangers.

Why?

Well, according to the report, Van Bronckhorst dismissed the 61-year-old former Netherlands international defensive midfielder ‘from his staff at Feyenoord’.

Potential blow for Giovanni van Bronckhorst

This report is a potential blow for Van Bronckhorst.

The former Arsenal star will surely want to bring in his own team, members of staff whom he can trust and knows well.

It seems that despite dismissing Wouters when he was at Feyenoord, Van Bronckhorst still rates him.

In football, you just never know.

Maybe Van Bronckhorst and Wouters will make up.

Wouters himself could be tempted to return to Rangers and help the Gers win the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row.
