Aston Villa could struggle to meet Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s wage demands, according to The Express & Star.

It has been reported that Martinez earns £20,000 per week as salary at Arsenal, and that the goalkeeper may ask for ‘several times more than that in order to agree a move’ – and this ‘could prove the biggest stumbling block’.

Villa are interested in signing the 27-year-old Argentine goalkeeper this summer and are willing to pay £10 million in transfer fee for him, but the Gunners was £20 million, according to the report.

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Tom Heaton is injured at the moment, and Pepe Reina has left after his loan spell ended, which means that Villa manager Dean Smith needs to bring in a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Martinez did well for Arsenal in the final weeks of last season, and the Argentine also played for the Gunners against Premier League rivals Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at the weekend.

The 27-year-old would be a very good signing for Villa, and he could even stay the number one after Heaton is fully fit and available for action.

Villa narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.
