Ange Postecoglou is settling into life at Celtic quite nicely.
The former Australia coach kicked off his stint at the Hoops with a win over Sheffield Wednesday a little earlier in the week.
Postecoglou was a surprise appointment by Celtic who were linked with a bunch of other more established coaches.
It took a while for the Bhoys to hire a replacement for Neil Lennon and if rumours are believed, Postecoglou wants a player first linked to Parkhead during the Irishman’s reign.
The Daily Mail claim that Celtic are plotting another move for Liverpool centre-back Ben Davies, who snubbed a move to Glasgow to join the then-Premier League champions in January.
It was a difficult move to turn down for the former Preston stalwart – who earns £60,000 per week at Anfield – but one that ultimately looks like the wrong decision, having failed to play a single minute of competitive action yet.
And it seems hugely unlikely that his first-team prospects will improve anytime soon amid the imminent returns of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, not to mention that the Merseysiders have already signed Ibrahima Konate.
The report from The Mail adds that it would be a loan to Celtic, should anything happen.
Badly needed
Postecoglou has a difficult job on his hands.
Rangers have just walked to their first Premiership title in a decade and they’ll be big favourites to retain their crown come next May.
The defence was a major problem for Celtic last season and you have to believe that somebody like Davies – praised for his ball-playing ability by Adebayo Akinfenwa this year – would improve things.
Let’s not forget, this was one of the Championship’s best central defenders, evident by the fact Liverpool signed him, and it bodes well that he would adapt comfortably to life in Scotland.
