Tottenham Hotspur are set to add Chris Davies to their backroom staff in what could be a blow for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.
Chris Davies is set to join Tottenham Hotspur with a return to Celtic now seemingly blocked off.
That is according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, who claim that Davies is set to join Tottenham.
McGrath notes that Swansea City had been targeting Davies to become their new manager.
Russell Martin looks primed to join Southampton this summer and Davies had been picked out as a potential replacement.
Instead, Davies will be joining Tottenham as a vital part of Ange Postecoglou’s new-look staff.
Ryan Mason looks set to stay at Tottenham but Postecoglou is now set to add Davies in an important move.
Postecoglou wanted to bring Celtic coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to Tottenham with him, but those moves have been difficult.
Postecoglou has now gone for Davies, a man who spent nearly three years on the Celtic staff but never crossed paths with the Australian.
Maybe somebody at Celtic had recommended Davies to Postecoglou, and Tottenham are now set to bring him in.
Chris Davies won’t be heading back to Celtic
Some had wondered whether Davies could head back to Celtic.
The Bhoys are moving forward with a deal to bring Brendan Rodgers back to the club as Postecoglou’s successor.
Rodgers and Davies go way back together and coached at Swansea City, Liverpool and Celtic.
Rodgers would have surely considered reuniting with the 38-year-old but he is instead set for Tottenham.
Celtic-bound Rodgers has hailed Davies as a ‘magnificent coach’ in the past but they will not be joining forces again in Glasgow.
This feels like a coup for Postecoglou and Tottenham, who will now give Davies another Premier League chance after leaving Leicester City in April.
