Report: Postecoglou could soon unleash ‘outstanding’ Celtic ace for the first time

Christopher Jullien is desperate to wear the Celtic jersey again, as the centre-back targets making his return from injury by the end of the month, according to The Scottish Sun.

Ange Postecoglou is yet to call on the Frenchman since taking charge at Parkhead in the summer. The 28-year-old last played for the Premiership giants on December 30 last year.

Jullien collided with the post during a 3-0 win over Dundee United, resulting in a cruciate ligament knee injury. Ending his 2020/21 campaign after 14 appearances and three goals.

Postecoglou confirmed Jullien had returned to training last month, but expected he would need around another month before playing again.

The Australian is showing caution as he is reluctant to put any unnecessary pressure on the former France U20 international.

But Postecoglou could welcome Jullien back by the end of November, if he enjoys another two-weeks of solid training sessions with the Celtic squad during the international break.

Jullien is pushing hard to make his return from injury possible and to play for Celtic again.

His availability would offer Postecoglou a welcome boost with Carl Starfelt currently out with a hamstring injury. While adding further experience to his centre-back ranks alongside Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales.

Jullien will want to make his return from injury as soon as possible to prove to Celtic that he still has a long-term future in Glasgow.

The defender has 20-months remaining on his £20k-a-week contract and will enter a key period on his return. Either showing Celtic he can still be a long-term option, or show that Postecoglou must shop for a replacement.

Jullien was a sore miss for ex-Bhoys boss Neil Lennon last season, having been a standout for the Northern Irishman. Offering a calming and assured presence at both ends of the pitch, with Lennon once dubbing him ‘outstanding’, via the official Hoops Twitter feed.
