The Chesterfield defender could replace the injured Tareiq Holmes-Dennis at Portsmouth.
Portsmouth have upped their bid for Chesterfield’s Dion Donohue to £200,000, The Sun reports in its printed edition on Friday (page 59).
It is claimed Pompey had an earlier, undisclosed offer turned down for the Welsh left-back, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign.
Dion Donohue of Chesterfield
Portsmouth lost Enda Stevens to Sheffield United earlier in the summer, and signed Huddersfield’s Tareiq Holmes-Dennis to replace him.
However, the 21-year-old suffered a season-ending injury on his debut for Kenny Jackett’s side, prompting them to renew their search for a left-back.
And they appear to have settled on Donohue, who has played in every single minute of Chesterfield’s campaign so far and was a regular in League One last term.
The 23-year-old, who can also operate as a left- or central-midfielder, spent time with Everton as a youngster, and later turned out for Welsh sides Porthmadog, Holyhead Hotspur and Caernarfon Town before signing for Chesterfield from Sutton Coldfield Town in England’s non-league.
Would Chesterfield’s Donohue be a good signing for Portsmouth?
