Portsmouth News claim manager Danny Cowley has made Tottenham striker Kion Etete a priority this summer, and is hopeful of striking a £300,000 deal. Etete is in the final year of his contract at Spurs.

Back in 2019, Tottenham plucked 20-year-old Ekete from Notts County after he had broken into the his old side’s senior team and played six times. He has since scored 10 goals in 26 outings for Tottenham’s Under-23’s.

During the 2021-22 campaign, he went out on loan twice. He joined League Two side Northampton last summer, scoring six goals in 22 appearances. That form caught the eye of League One club Cheltenham Town.

He swapped clubs in January, and went on to score three more in 13 games for the Robins. Cheltenham boss Michael Duff said he has been “very good”. His stock is rising and now, Portsmouth want him permanently for just £300,000.

Portsmouth hopeful of striking deal for Tottenham striker Etete

It would be a wonderful move for the player in question. Portsmouth finished in a solid 10th place in League One last season and will be harbouring pre-season hopes of a promotion push, back into the Championship.

Etete could be the attacking spearhead as Cowley plans an assault on the League One table. For Portsmouth, they would be getting a young, English striker for a bargain fee – who is already proven at League One level.

The only issue is that Tottenham may feel they can command for Etete. However, with his contract expiring in the next 12 months, they might feel that it is worth cashing in now, rather than risk losing him for nothing.
