Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson is reportedly set to seal a move away from Elland Road this summer.

According to journalist Phil Hay on Twitter, Pontus Jansson is all set to seal a move to another English club, with Leeds agreeing to sell the centre-back for £5.5 million this summer.

Jansson’s future has looked to be up in the air for some time now following the Whites’ failure to get promoted from the Championship. One of the defining images from their play-off semi-final defeat was the Swede – who started the second-leg as a substitute – sitting against the advertising boards at Elland Road after full-time looking to be in sheer disbelief at Leeds’ loss.

And that speculation surrounding his future reached another level when he did not return for pre-season training. While he had been away on international duty and expected to return late anyway, many wondered whether his absence could be an indication that something may be happening.

And Phil Hay has now confirmed on Twitter that he is indeed on his way out of Elland Road, firstly suggesting that Jansson’s relationship with the club has broken down and then reporting that he is close to sealing a £5.5 million move to another English side.

Here is what Hay reported about Jansson’s future…

The news is likely to attract a mixed response from the Leeds fans. Jansson had been a cult-hero throughout his stay with the Whites, but there will be plenty of supporters who will back a sale if there has been some sort of break down in the relationship between the Swede and the club.

It will be tough for the fans to see the defender represent another club next season – particular if he is joining a Championship rival – but it makes little sense to keep him if he is not happy and Leeds are not sure that they want him to stay.
