Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Barcelona’s Carles Alena.

According to the back page of today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting a January deal for Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena.
Alena, 21, has come up through Barca’s famed La Masia academy, and was long touted as an heir to Andres Iniesta or Xavi.
Yet as Barcelona have moved further and further away from relying on La Masia and closer to Real Madrid’s ‘Galactico’ way of life, Alena hasn’t really been given the chances to shine.
The midfielder has only ever made 21 league appearances for the club, and is now wanted by Maurico Pochettino at Tottenham.
It’s claimed that Pochettino knows Alena is frustrated with his playing time, and wants to tempt him into leaving the Camp Nou by offering him a move to North London.
Whether Alena would be interested remains to be seen, but potentially playing more first-team football with Spurs has to be appealing to a player who is in danger of stagnating.

A classy left-footed midfielder, Alena would fit well on the left side of Pochettino’s diamond system, or even further forward thanks to his technical ability.
Alena has a €75million (£64million) release clause in his Barcelona contract, but given his lack of playing time, Spurs should be able to get him for much cheaper than that.
