According to The Sun, Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Benjamin Mendy, who is out of favour at Manchester City.
Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing the 10-cap France international, as his future at the Etihad Stadium looks increasingly uncertain.
Mendy – who was signed for a whopping £52 million from Monaco – has only made 12 appearances this season.
Significantly, his only appearances since mid-December have come in FA Cup ties, having lost his spot to Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Mendy wasn’t even in the squad for Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Wolves on Tuesday night.
It’s a shame to see, as his career in England started so brightly.
As quoted by City’s website, Guardiola even called him an ‘extraordinary player’ after a 4-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
The Sun add that, regardless of what happens with the 26-year-old, the Citizens are likely to look for a new left-back in the summer.
In our view, it would probably be best for Guardiola to move Mendy on while his stock is still fairly high.
If the current situation continues, City would be dreaming if they think they’ll be able to recoup anywhere near their initial £52 million outlay.
The best scenario would be to tempt PSG and their bulging bank balance into making an attractive offer for the defender, before cashing in.
With Zinchenko at the club, as well as Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake – who are all able to play left-back – there is simply no need to keep the £90,000-a-week Mendy around.
