Tottenham Hotspur travel to take on Juventus in the Champions League this week.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur will leave Toby Alderweireld at home when they travel to take on Juventus in the Champions League this week.
Spurs are buoyant after beating North London rivals Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but now face a tough test on Tuesday night when they travel to Turin.
With the Champions League back once again, Spurs take on Juventus in the first leg of their last 16 clash, but one player unlikely to be making the trip to Italy is defender Toby Alderweireld.

It’s claimed that the centre back will be kept behind in London to work on his fitness rather than being dragged all the way to Italy when he may not feature, in a move which has shocked some.
Future in question?
The report claims that Alderweireld’s Tottenham future has been plunged into new doubt as he won’t be travelling to Italy, amid concerns over his contract situation.

Alderweireld, 28, has yet to sign a new contract with Spurs, and given that he allegedly has a £25million release clause in his current deal which can be activated in 2019, Tottenham fans are worrying that their star defender may leave.
Being left out of such a huge game isn’t exactly an aid to Tottenham’s cause, but a decision with Alderweireld’s fitness and health at the forefront is unlikely to cause major ructions.
The Belgian international just missed over three months of action through injury and made his return last week against League Two side Newport County, meaning being thrown in against Juve would be a huge gamble from Mauricio Pochettino – even if it does somehow impact Tottenham’s hopes of keeping the defender.
