Mauricio Pochettino does not want Kalidou Koulibaly to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Mauricio Pochettino wants Kalidou Koulibaly to stay at Chelsea

Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Pochettino, who is about to become the new head coach of Tottenham, is “a long-term admirer of Koulibaly”.

The former Tottenham head coach is “likely to try to persuade” the central defender to stay at Chelsea.

The report has added that “the feeling around Chelsea has been that a struggle to settle is leading him to consider a move back to Italy”.

Koulibaly joined Chelsea from Napoli in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £33 million.

The 31-year-old Senegal international central defender earns £300,000 per week (SalarySport) as salary at the Blues.

Stay at Stamford Bridge

In our view, Kalidou Koulibaly should not leave Chelsea at the end of the season, and the Blues themselves should not look to offload him.

Yes, the defender is not having the best of times this season, but Chelsea as a team are struggling.

We know that the Senegalese is a very good and capable defender, and under Pochettino, he could get back to his best.

Just because Koulibaly has had a few bad months does not make him a bad defender.

We believe that Koulibaly will come good for Chelsea.

Eventually.

Koulibaly has made 20 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea this season.

The former Napoli star has scored two goals and given one assist in those games.

Koulibaly also played seven matches in the UEFA Champions League for the Blues this campaign.
