Tottenham Hotspur may have yet another reason to be grateful for their Argentine manager.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has personally gotten involved in Christian Eriksen’s contract talks, according to Sky Sports, to ensure the talented midfielder agrees to stay at White Hart Lane.
The Sky Sports report says Eriksen and his agent have been discussing terms with Spurs since March, and that his manager has intervened, successfully helping edge the player towards a new £70,000-a-week deal, set to expire in 2020, which will be signed in the near future.
Though a cynical way of looking at Moussa Sissoko’s big money move to Tottenham would be suggest it was following on from reports that Eriksen was struggling to agree a new contract (The Sun), the reality of the France international joining was that it would strengthen the club’s midfield with Champions League football on the horizon.

Eriksen hasn’t been at his best so far this season by any stretch of the imagination, but it is clear that he remains a vital part of Pochettino’s team and squad.
No other player has the playmaking quality and passing ability of the Dane, and individual’s possessing such skills are few and far between in world football and certainly not cheap to acquire.

Whether the figures mentioned earlier in the summer regarding Eriksen’s supposed contract demands were ever true, it isn’t a stretch to suggest that the 24-year-old has demonstrated enough over the last couple of season to deserve a deal reflecting his importance at the club, and the club’s status as a Champions League outfit.
And it of course underlines the influence Pochettino has at Spurs, something that has so far brought only good things to the famous North Londoners.
