Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has personally told Chelsea to sign Manuel Ugarte, a player Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are also keen on signing from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has approved Chelsea’s desire to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023.

Romano has claimed that Chelsea are now pushing in talks with Sporting and Ugarte, described as “a genius” by his club teammate Pedro Goncalves on Instagram.

The journalist wrote: “Understand Manuel Ugarte has been approved as target also by Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino #CFC

“Chelsea are pushing in talks with club and player side, Jorge Mendes’ on it.

And this means more competition for Liverpool, who have also been linked with the 22-year-old Uruguay international defensive midfielder.

Le Parisien have reported that Liverpool are ready to pay €60 million (£52 million) to Sporting Lisbon to secure the services of Ugarte in the summer of 2023.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the youngster, according to the report.

Chelsea desire for Manuel Ugarte real threat for Liverpool

With Chelsea and PSG so keen on Ugarte, it would be very tough for Liverpool to get a deal done.

Now, of course, Liverpool are a big club, but PSG and Chelsea are big too and would be able to pay the youngster a lot of money in salary.
