Thomas Partey is set to undergo his medical ahead of a move to Arsenal in the next hour, The Sun claim (2:53).

Arsenal are now ready to activate Partey’s release clause at Atletico Madrid, with the Ghanaian midfielder all set to join before this evening’s transfer deadline.

Partey will undergo his Arsenal medical in Madrid imminently, before flying to England later this week.

The news has come as a shock to Arsenal supporters, who were starting to give up hope on the transfer deal.

Arsenal have been chasing Partey for much of the summer so far, but they have previously refused to pay his release clause.

However, with time running out in the transfer window, and no other defensive midfielders signed, Arsenal appear to have decided to pay up.

Partey should walk straight into Mikel Arteta’s side’s starting line-up upon his arrival, and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t make his debut in the Gunners’ next match, which comes against Manchester City after the international break.
