Leeds United and West Ham United will have to pay £20 million to sign Mykola Matviyenko, according to The Express.

It has been reported that Leeds and West Ham are among the clubs interested in signing Matviyenko from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window.

Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also reported to want the Ukraine international.

The report has added that the 24-year-old – who can operate as a central defender or as a left-back – is valued at £20 million.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Matviyenko made six appearances in the Champions League and played six matches in the Europa League for Shakhtar in 2019-20.

Too expensive?

Matviyenko has experience of playing in the Champions League and the Europa League, and the 24-year-old defender has also won the Ukrainian Premier League twice with Shakhtar.

However, £20 million does sound a bit too much, although both Leeds and West Ham could do with a centre-back this summer.

True, the Whites have just signed Robin Koch, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa would be better off with another senior centre-back along with the German and Liam Cooper in the squad.

As for West Ham, the Hammers need to get defensively better, especially as they conceded 62 goals in 38 matches in the league last season.
