According to Marca, Atletico Madrid could now sell Saul Niguez, just one year after he rejected Liverpool to join Chelsea on loan.
What’s the story?
Well, it was Mundo Deportivo who claimed that Liverpool were in talks to sign Saul back in the summer of 2021.
Eventually, the Spaniard opted to join Chelsea on a season-long loan, where things have gone terribly.
Saul has made just six Premier League appearances under Thomas Tuchel, totalling 165 minutes as only two of those outings have come as starts.
Now, Marca believe he could be sold by Diego Simeone.
The Spanish news outlet state that the 27-year-old’s attitude upon returning to the Wanda Metropolitano will decide if he stays, or if he is sold.
With all things considered, it’s safe to say that Liverpool dodged a bullet.
Fans should trust Liverpool after Saul Niguez saga
When the Reds missed out on Saul, some Liverpool fans were absolutely furious as they felt they needed more midfield depth.
Fast forward to the present day, and Jürgen Klopp has turned Harvey Elliott into an effective first-team regular who has had twice the season of Saul, despite missing five months with an ankle injury.
Klopp – and the rest of his staff – haven’t come this far by mistake.
In our view, fans unhappy with the club’s transfer activity should trust the German and those on the recruitment team to just get on with things.
