Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle United are interested in signing Declan Rice from Premier League rivals West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
The report has claimed that “Newcastle’s recruitment team would love to take him to St James’ Park”, adding that the Magpies “are keen to hold talks with Rice and his representatives”.
However, it is Arsenal who are leading the race for Rice, according to The Northern Echo, who have added that the midfielder’s representatives are looking for £250,000 per week as salary.
Newcastle, though, are not willing to significantly alter their wage structure that sees their highest paid player earn £120,000 per week, according to the report.

Should Newcastle United pay £250,000 per week to Declan Rice?
In our view, Newcastle United should be very careful about how much they pay for and to Declan Rice.
A weekly salary of £250,000 per week to a defensive midfielder is a lot of money.
And there is speculation that West Ham United will not sell the 24-year-old for anything less than £100 million.
Rice would cost Newcastle a lot of money when you factor in his wages and the transfer fee.
Newcastle owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), have been careful about who they spend their money on and how much.
Yes, Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, but that does not mean that they should go crazy in the summer transfer window.
