According to The Mirror, David Luiz is still waiting to hear from Arsenal if they want him to be at the club next season.

It has been reported that Arsenal have not yet told the former Chelsea central defender if they will trigger the one-year extension to the deal he signed when he joined them from the Blues in the summer of 2019.

The report has further added that if the Brazil international, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, wants to move to Benfica this summer, then he will have to take a pay-cut of £38,000 per week, as the Portuguese club have a salary cap of £32,000-a-week.

The Mirror has also quoted the 33-year-old as saying that he has spoken to Benfica about a potential move.

Leaving Arsenal

Luiz is a good player, but he is now 33 years of age, and with William Saliba back at Arsenal from his loan spell at Saint-Etienne, the Gunners may think that they need not keep the Brazilian in the squad for next season.

According to WhoScored, the former Paris Saint-Germain star has scored two goals and provided one assist in 25 Premier League matches for the Gunners so far this season.
