Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are about to beat Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United to the signing of Alexis Mac Allister.

The Times are reporting this morning that Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Liverpool are in contact with Brighton and are hopeful of completing a deal for the Argentina international midfielder this week.

The Times have added that Manchester United have looked at a potential deal for the 2022 Qatar World Cup winner with Argentina.

However, Mac Allister prefers a move to Liverpool to a switch to United, who are now focusing of getting a deal done for Chelsea and England international midfielder Mason Mount.

Exciting Alexis Mac Allister transfer update for Liverpool fans

In our view, that Alexis Mac Allister prefers a move to Liverpool to a transfer to Manchester United is hugely exciting and encouraging for the Merseyside club.

United will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, Liverpool will not.

Yet, the Argentina international wants to move to Anfield.

That shows that even a year out of the UEFA Champions League does not make Liverpool any less attractive.

Moreover, Liverpool do need midfielders.

Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all are leaving Anfield this summer.

Thiago has had injury problems, while Fabinho did not have a good season.

So, Mac Allister could just walk into the Liverpool starting lineup.
