According to Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 12:58pm, February 1, 2021), Shkodran Mustafi wants to leave Arsenal and join Schalke on transfer deadline day.
It has been reported that discussions are underway over a move for Mustafi to Schalke until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old central defender, who is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, would be a replacement for Ozak Kabak, who could end up at Liverpool today.
According to Sky Sports, defending Premier League champions Liverpool want to sign Kabak on loan from Schalke.
Good move for Shkodran Mustafi?
Mustafi is not playing much for Arsenal at the moment, and that is unlikely to change in the coming weeks and months.
A move to Schalke would see the Germany international central defender get regular playing time, and it would also see the Gunners save money on his wages.
The former Valencia star is still only 28 now, and his best years are ahead of him. A transfer to Schalke would be best for all three parties, at least in the short term.
