According to The Guardian, Duje Caleta-Car has turned down the chance to join West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

West Ham were reportedly hoping to sign Caleta-Car from Marseille before the window closes on Monday for £20 million.

However, according to the report, the 24-year-old centre-back has decided not to join West Ham and stay at Marseille, who will play in the Champions League this season.

The report has added that West Ham could now turn towards Craig Dawson of Watford, with manager David Moyes looking for a new centre-back.

According to 90min, West Ham and Marseille had agreed on a £20 million transfer fee, but the defender has turned down the move to the Hammers.

Blow for West Ham United

Caleta-Car is a very good central defender and would have made West Ham a better team at the back.

True, the Hammers are a big club and play in the richest domestic league in the world, but one can understand the defender’s desire to play in the Champions League.

Marseille will be aiming to finish in the top three of the Ligue 1 table again this season, while West Ham could end up fighting for survival in the Premier League just like in 2019-20.
