According to the Chronicle, West Brom are interested in signing Matty Longstaff from Newcastle this summer.
What’s the story?
Well, the Baggies – who announced the appointment of Valérien Ismaël earlier today – aren’t the only ones keen to sign the 21-year-old.
Anderlecht and Norwich are also eyeing the 2-cap England Under-20 international, who burst onto the scene at Newcastle.
The Magpies have made their academy graduate available for loan.
Longstaff – playing alongside his brother Sean – scored the winner against Manchester United on his Premier League debut back in October 2019.
However, he endured a quiet season under Steve Bruce in the 2020/21 campaign, and made just five Premier League appearances.
Gary Lineker thinks he’s the future

One man who’s a big fan of Longstaff is Gary Lineker.
The BBC Match of the Day host tweeted a list of gems who he felt would be the future of English football, and named Longstaff on the list.
As the Chronicle covered, Lineker was pushed on which Longstaff he meant to refer to – both, he replied.

On another occasion, Lineker tweeted that he felt Longstaff ‘could really play’ after watching him star once again for Newcastle.
If this does turn out to be Ismaël’s first signing, what a deal it would be.
