Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has an agreement in place with the club to leave this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition, page 12, June 12, 2021).

It has been reported that AS Roma are interested in the Arsenal midfielder.

The Switzerland international has an agreement with the Gunners to let him leave if they get an acceptable offer.

That transfer fee is €18 million (£15.45 million), but Roma have yet to reach an agreement with Arsenal.

Exit imminent?

Described as “phenomenal” by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in The Guardian in January 2021, Xhaka appears to be on his way out of the club.

The 28-year-old played regularly for the Gunners this past season.

The midfielder made 29 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal.

Xhaka scored one goal and gave two assists in those games.

The Swiss also played 10 times in the Europa League for the North London club.

Thomas Partey is a key figure in the Arsenal midfield, and the Ghana international needs an equally capable partner in the middle of the park.

Xhaka is a good midfielder, but if Arsenal are to go back to where they were – challenging for major trophies – then they need someone better.
