According to a report by the Daily Record, Lisandro Martinez is now trying to pressure Ajax into accepting Manchester United’s transfer offer.
The Argentine has been the subject of an untold amount of speculation this summer as Arsenal and Manchester United have been locked in a race for his signature, and now, it looks like the Red Devils are finally closing in on the defender.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are ‘really pushing’ for Martinez and they will not give up until the very end, but sadly for the Gunners, the finishing line of this transfer race looks to be in sight for United.
Martinez seemingly wants to move to Old Trafford, and, to be honest, it’s not too hard to understand why.
This move would see the defender reunited with Erik ten Hag who was, of course, his long-time coach and mentor at Ajax, and the idea of playing under a manager you know well for one of the biggest clubs in the world is incredibly appealing.
Of course, whether or not Ajax decide to accept United’s offer remains to be seen.
The Dutch club have apparently raised their asking price for Martinez, and with Arsenal still keen, the Eredivisie giants are reportedly hoping to encourage a bidding war.
As Romano said this week, Arsenal won’t be out of this race until it’s over, but it looks like Martinez could be set for Old Trafford rather than the Emirates.
