Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Ollie Watkins has really complicated mattes for Aston Villa in the race to sign the Brentford, the Express and Star report.
Villa believed they were winning the race to sign Watkins, but Tottenham are now rivalling them, and that may no longer be the case.
Dean Smith’s side are said to know that they are now in a real battle to land the Championship’s joint top-scorer from last season.
The appeal of joining Tottenham over Villa is obvious, as Jose Mourinho’s side are better placed to trouble the top end of the table.
Spurs will be hunting for a place in the top four this season, after missing out last time around.
Watkins’ chances of regular first-team football would be greatly increased by a move to Villa though.

Spurs already have Harry Kane, and the £22 million-rated striker (The Sun) would be highly unlikely to ever displace the England captain as first choice.
Villa, meanwhile, are in desperate need of a goalscorer – as their current striking options all struggled over the previous campaign.
Villa also look set to miss out on Callum Wilson, which means they will surely be desperate to get a deal over the line for Watkins sooner rather than later.
