Aston Villa coach John Terry is keen on the idea of taking over at Derby County with a new ownership group likely to make funds available for a rebuild at Pride Park, according to Sky Sports.
With the Rams bottom of the Championship and five points adrift of safety after Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Wycombe Wanderers, you could forgive the former England captain for running a mile when Derby come calling.
But while the 2020/21 season has been a miserable one so far for the East Midland giants, there is still plenty of reason for optimism.
As pointed out by Sky, the days of brutal cost-cutting will be over soon enough with Mel Morris on the verge of selling Derby to Sheikh Khaled, a member of the Abu Dhabi Royal family.
And while the club’s prospective new owner is unlikely to splash the cash like his cousin, Manchester City’s head honcho Sheikh Mansour, the report claims that Terry is excited by the prospect of what Sky refer to as ‘substantial new investment’.

The 39-year-old has been learning the ropes at Aston Villa since 2018, working alongside Dean Smith at the Premier League giants.
A move to Derby, meanwhile, would see Terry become the main man for the first time in his coaching career, albeit alongside his former England team-mate Wayne Rooney.
The Mail, meanwhile, claim that Aston Villa would not stand in Terry’s way if he was offered the top job at Pride Park.
