Sheffield United have told Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur that Sander Berge will cost £35 million because of a hefty release clause in the midfielder’s contract, as reported by The Star.
Spending most of the season on the treatment table may actually have worked to Berge’s advantage.
Because, while the reputations of John Fleck, Sam Baldock and Oli McBurnie have been hit hard during Sheffield United’s miserable campaign, the club’s £22 million record signing won’t be tarred by the same relegation brush.
In fact, Berge could even be in line for a move to one of England’s biggest clubs when the transfer window swings open.
Arsenal and Tottenham are long-time admirers of the midfield powerhouse.
And, according to The Star, Sheffield United have confirmed during talks with Arsenal and Spurs that Berge does indeed have a £35 million release clause in his contract.

The Blades are unlikely to accept a penny less than that for a player who only joined the club from Genk in 2020.
A purposeful, forward-thinking, ‘Rolls-Royce’ of a central midfielder, Berge would add some real drive to a sometimes one-paced Tottenham midfield.
