Everton have been watching St Etienne’s Wesley Fofana, but Leicester City are pushing ahead in the race to sign him, the Daily Mail report.
Everton have apparently had a close eye on the 19-year-old, who they would like to bring to Goodison Park.
However, Leicester are now readying a £20 million bid for the centre-back, who they think is ready to move on from France.
Everton have been busy in recent weeks in the transfer market, with Allan and James Rodriguez both joining.
But the Toffees are yet to secure the signing of a central defender, and they may now miss out on Fofana.

That could be a blow as the teenager looks one of the most exciting prospects in France.
St. Etienne have so far fought hard to keep him, but Leicester now seem to be closing in on sealing a deal.
Everton currently have Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina competing for their spots in central defence.
