Newcastle United’s Saudi Arabia’Public Investment Fund (PIF) owners want two signings made before their Premier League clash against Watford
According to the Athletic, the Magpies’ FA Cup loss to League One side Cambridge United has highlighted Newcastle’s need for added quality, with the club owners eager for a striker and centre-back to be signed.
As per the report, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of Saudi Arabia’s PIF and the club’s executive vice-chairman, visited the changing room following the defeat, with Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi also joining the venture to meet the players and Eddie Howe.
Newcastle have already made one signing this window in the form of England international and La Liga champion Kieran Trippier. However, it is clear that more has to be done if the Toon are to survive in the Premier League this season.
Callum Wilson is expected to miss up to eight weeks due to a calf injury as reported by Sky Sports News. Meaning, a striker is needed for Newcastle, as well as a centre-back. The northeast side have one of the worst defensive records in the top-flight this season.
Moreover, with Newcastle facing Watford this Saturday in a huge Premier League match, two new signings could be the difference between three points or another defeat.
Newcastle must be smart in which signings they make this week

With PIF urging the club to make signings this week, Newcastle’s transfer and scouting team will have the pressure of finding two players who fit the bill of what the Toon need to survive this season.
Indeed, making a rushed signing could be as bad as making no signing at all. And Newcastle must play it smart if they are to bring in two players this week, especially with clubs aware of how much the Magpies have to spend this month.
