Newcastle United have made contact with Roberto Martinez, according to AS.

What’s the story?

AS are reporting that Newcastle are very keen on Martinez rather than the other one round.

It is being reported by the Spanish publication that the new owners of Newcastle have presented the former Everton boss with a long-term project.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) believe that Martinez could grow Newcastle to where they want the club to be.

What about Martinez’s side of things then?

Well, according to the report, the 48-year-old does not want to leave Belgium right now.

Now, of course, Newcastle could pay the release clause and get Martinez, but he has emotional ties to the job.

After all, the 2022 World Cup finals are just over a year away, and the former Swansea City and Wigan Athletic boss would like to be there.

What happens now?

Now, if PIF really want Martinez and the Spaniard wants to be part of the Newcastle revolution, then perhaps an agreement could be reached.

Maybe Martinez could do the Belgium job as well as the Newcastle role.
