Well, Steve Bruce might not be a goner at Newcastle United just yet.

Newcastle have been under new ownership for the past six days after Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their long-awaited takeover of the club last week.

Bruce admitted to The Daily Mail afterwards that he was fearing for his job at St James’s Park as a result.

But The Telegraph have reported that the new owners – some of whom visited the training ground on Monday – have been left very impressed by the 60-year-old, whom they ‘praised’.

The report adds that Bruce’s conduct has made a positive impression over the past 18 monthsfollowing their failed attempt to buy out Mike Ashley in 2020.

However, The Telegraph also adds that despite being impressed, the veteran English manager is still expected to be ‘removed’ before Sunday.

Newcastle’s new era officially begins with a visit of Spurs to the North East, in what would be Bruce’s 1,000th game as a manager, but it doesn’t look like he’ll get there.

Dangerous?

The potential decision to sack Bruce – who earns around £230,000 per month at the Magpies – has been met with some criticism, with Gabby Agbonlahor warning on Sunday that it was a ‘dangerous’ thing.

But with United in the bottom three, Newcastle’s new custodians have a duty to steer the club away from the relegation zone as soon as possible and if that means dismissing Bruce and hiring somebody else, so be it.
