Burnley are allowing Phil Jagielka to train with them after leaving Everton.
According to the Daily Mail, Burnley have allowed defender Phil Jagielka to train with them, having seen his Everton contract expire on Sunday.
Jagielka, 36, brought an end to 12 years with Everton on Sunday, as his contract at Goodison Park came to an end, with no renewal signed.
The centre back spent six years as Everton captain, whilst he also racked up nearly 400 appearances for the club having joined from Sheffield United in 2007.
An England international who was a favourite at Everton, Jagielka must now find a new club – and he’s been given a helping hand by Sean Dyche.
The Burnley boss has brought Jagielka in for training, which right now is only for fitness purposes, rather than being a pre-cursor for a potential move.
These things do happen though; situations were players head in for training, and end up impressing so much that they earn permanent contracts with clubs.
That may be what Jagielka is hoping for, staying local in the North West whilst offering a veteran presence at Turf Moor in the final stages of his career.
It’s unlikely right now, but with another centre back potentially needed to support James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and Kevin Long, stranger things have happened than Jagielka winning a deal with the Clarets – and that may see him take on Everton next season.
