Granit Xhaka leaving Arsenal might be a possibility again this summer.

For much of the 2021 summer transfer window, the Switzerland international was heavily linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

But nothing materialised and the former Arsenal captain wound up having a very decent season under Mikel Arteta, who labelled the player ‘phenomenal’ last year [The Guardian].

However, the Gunners are interested in a number of midfielders this summer.

According to The Athletic, the North Londoners are confident about signing Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

And Corriere Dello Sport in Italy has reported today that Tielemans to Arsenal may open the door for Xhaka to finally get his transfer to Mourinho’s outfit this summer.

The report adds that Mourinho would still be interested in signing the 29-year-old, who turns 30 in September.

Granit Xhaka leaving Arsenal?

Well, it’s possible.

Arsenal supporters have never really taken to Xhaka, for one reason or the other.

But the fact is that he’s been an ever-present figure for the Gunners under three different managers – Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Arteta.

The latter is clearly a massive fan of the Swiss star, starting him in 27 Premier League outings last season.

That being said, Tielemans is a similiar player and has plenty of Premier League experience at this point.

But sometimes, it’s the devil you know and although Xhaka has never been popular among many Gooners, his absence may be rapidly felt if Tielemans – or another replacement – isn’t up to par.
